Unit Secretary

SUMMARY OF JOB:

A Unit Secretary is to provide clerical support to the Eye Clinic staff, ensuring a systematic and coordinated department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Answers the telephone for the Ophthalmologist utilizing positive communication skills and established patient protocols.
  2. Makes appointments for unscheduled patients, checks insurance, and secures referrals.
  3. Calls to remind patients of upcoming appointments or to change a scheduled appointment when necessary.
  4. Monitors and adjusts the daily office schedule and coordinates schedules with appropriate departments and out-of-town clinics.
  5. Maintains patient referral lists and sends follow-up letters to referring physicians.
  6. Secures patients charts as needed.
  7. Sorts and distributes the physicians’ mail.
  8. Scribes for the physician as needed.
  9. Escribes prescriptions to pharmacies.
  10. Completes patient assistance paperwork when necessary.
  11. Processes and mails the physician’s dictation.
  12. Assists with surgery paperwork including procedure listings, charges and post surgery appointments and instructions.
  13. Assists the physicians and nurses with special assignments.
  14. Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record.  (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.
  15. Attends in-service programs as directed or required.
  16. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, physicians, employees and the public.  Exemplifies the Company’s Five Star Program.
  17. Follows all corporate and departmental policies and procedures and complies with the Employee Handbook.
  18. Performs other tasks as needed or directed.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:

Performs duties under direct and indirect supervision.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Accountability: Reports directly to the Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic Supervisor.
  • Education or Training: Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or earned a GED.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Requires at least 1 year of previous office work experience preferably in the medical field.
  • Dexterity: Must have good manual dexterity for operating office equipment. Must be able  to function in an office setting.
  • Accuracy: Must be able to transcribe information received from patients, including insurance coverage, social security and telephone numbers without error.
  • Physical Activity: Physical activity involves keying, reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, standing, walking, and much sitting, resulting in   light     work.
  • Exertion Requirements: Light – must be able to lift or carry up to 10 pounds of weight up to 10 feet occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time), or a negligible amount of weight up to 10 feet frequently (from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time).  Light work requires sitting most of the time, but may involve periods of standing and walking depending on task requirements.
  • Working Conditions: Works in an office setting, which is well lighted, ventilated
  • and temperature regulated.
  • Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise,  conversations and foot traffic.
  • Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods of time.
  • Hazards or Risks: In office minimal.
  • Worker Characteristics: Must have responsible, ethical and professional manner with the
  • ability to listen learns, plan and organize.  Must be able to communicate with people of
  • different races, sexes, ages and social classes.,

Part Time Licensed Physical Therapist or Licensed Nurse Practitioner

SUMMARY OF JOB:

The Vestibular Clinic Coordinator is responsible for establishing a patient’s individual vestibular rehabilitation program including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education and communication to maximize progress toward achieving functional goals.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Accountability: Reports directly to the referring physician and the Chief Operating Officer.
  2. Education or Training: Must be a Licensed Physical Therapist or a Nurse Practitioner.
  3. Knowledge and Experience: Requires at least 5 years of work experience.
  4. Dexterity: Must have good manual dexterity for writing, examining patients and operating equipment. Must be able to function in an office setting.  Must be able to drive an automobile.
  5. Accuracy: Must be able to transcribe information received from physicians and patients, including insurance coverage, social security and telephone numbers without error.
  6. Physical Activity: Physical activity involves reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, sitting, standing and much walking, resulting in medium work.
  7. Exertion Requirements: Medium.  Must be able to exert force to lift and carry from 20 to          50 pounds of force up to 10 feet occasionally, from 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently   and up to 10 pounds of force constantly.  Must be able to walk, stand or sit to a    significant degree depending on task requirements.
  8. Working Conditions: Works in an office setting, which is well-lighted, ventilated and temperature regulated.  Automobile travel may be required. Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise,                   conversations and foot traffic. Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods          of time.
  9. Hazards or Risks: Possible exposure to blood borne and air borne pathogens.

Audiologist- Full Time Days

An audiologist specializes in evaluating and treating people with hearing loss.  The audiologist conducts a wide variety of tests to determine the exact nature of the individuals problem.  The audiologist also dispenses and fits hearing aids, administers tests for balance and rehabilitation training.

Must have AuD or Master’s degree in Audiology and certification by American Speech and Hearing Association and Alabama Board of Examiners for  Speech, Pathology and Audiology.
